Anyhow, now it’s time for WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS!  (I wish I could make that just blink or something to show just how exciting it is to me.)

Wondering who we are?  We are a fabulous group of individuals that posts 8-10 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we “hop” around and leave comments on each other’s snippets.  We welcome EVERYONE’s comments.~

None of my children understood why I had taken a week off from work to be at home alone, but that was okay.  I told them not to call me and not to expect replies to their messages on social media, because I wouldn’t be checking them.  I don’t think that any of them took me seriously and wasn’t surprised three days into my week off when a police officer came to the door to check on my wellbeing.

My divorce had finally been finalized, Michael my X-husband was now free to tend to his girlfriend or his Chia as I liked to call her.  Chia was a term I used for his other woman.  Yes I had known about her for years and while I wasn’t okay with it, I dealt with it because Michael was the breadwinner and I didn’t have to work until two years ago on my forty eighth birthday when he came home from work and said that he couldn’t do this anymore.  Now just four days away from my fiftieth birthday I wanted to be alone, to lay in bed and deal with everything in my own way.

Rosalyn, my oldest daughter had moved to Chicago nine years ago with her husband.  She was the last one of my children to leave the nest.

I pulled the phone close to my ear and glanced around the departure area to make sure that no one was listening.

“Tell me.”  I said.  “I’m sure it’s nothing that I can’t handle.”

Tito paused and during that pause I wondered what he had to say that was so serious, as I glanced at the flight attendants who were preparing to begin loading the airplane.

“Evaliz, do you remember my secretary Janelle?”  Tito asked.

“Of course I remember her.” I replied.  “Remember she invited me to her bachelorette party next week and we went to dinner with her and her fiancé last month.

“So is that what was bothering you last night?”  I asked, growing impatient.  I could see the line of coach passengers lining up now and from the looks of it, I was going to be last in line.

“No, that was part of it, but not the whole thing.”  Tito said as he let out a long breath.

“Come on Tito, you’ve got to speed it up a little.”  I said laughing.  “My plane is about to take off and I’ve got to get on it before it takes off without me.”

Tito was quiet for a moment and I used the opportunity to prepare to stand up.

“Evaliz, I have something that I need to tell you before you leave and I’m not sure how it’s going to affect our relationship.”

“Come on mija.”  My father said loudly as he rolled down the window.  “You have to move faster, Mommy is watching.”

With that my mother slammed the door and my father let out a loud arrogant laugh.

“Papi, why do you always have to make mommy upset.”  I asked as I got in and fastened my seat belt.  “Promise to be nice to mommy while I’m gone.  I don’t want to hear about any fighting or to turn on the news when I get there and hear about mommy murdering you!”

I made a face as our eyes met and my father laughed again.  We couldn’t help it, we had the same sense of humor, both of us just as crazy as the other.

“Let Tatiana know how much I love her when you get there.  Make sure it’s the first thing you do.  Please.  Tell her daddy loves her and is thinking of her too.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Mommy, you said Tatiana is going to be okay.”  I said.  “Why don’t you just call her and tell her yourself?”

“Because I want you to do it Mija.”  My mother replied.

Weekend Writing Warriors #8SUNDAY ~ 2015 Christmas Story

Hi friends, welcome back to my page.  Does anyone else have weird trick-or-treating hours in their city?  Ours is this Sunday!  I’m not ready.  This week I’m sharing a little more from the Christmas story I’m working on….  I skipped ahead a little bit….

And now it’s time for WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS!  (Did you read that with a wrestling announcers voice?  That’s what I was going for.)

“Sweetheart, sit down.”  My mother said, eying my father who stood across the room without saying a word.

I felt my heart drop as I looked across the room at them.  Their expressions were serious, in spite of the sweet scent of pumpkin empanadas that filled the room.  My mother crossed her arms over her yellow sweater and glanced at my father for approval.  Only when he nodded did she continue.

“Evaliz, your sister was in an accident.”  My mother said slowly.  “She was in the back of a taxi cab that slammed into another car.”

“Why get us anything then pa?”  I remember asking him as a young girl.

“So that you can have something to open and to learn to be thankful for.”  He grumbled as he eyed my mother who always stood across the room quietly without saying a word.  “If I get you gloves and a hat, I expect to see a smile on your face and a thank you come out of your mouth.  Entiendes?”

I always cried and ran to my room while my sister stayed in the room with my parents and drank Ponche Navideno, which was kind of like a Mexican Fruit punch with chunks of fruit hibiscus tea, giving me another reason to be upset with her as she spent time with my Mom and Dad.  We were the only ones of the Vasquez family that lived in the United States, so often Christmas was the one time my father would allow my mother to call their home town to talk with family members, yet another thing that I always missed out on because of my stubbornness.

Twenty years later I was husbandless and the only thing I wanted for Christmas was for Tito, my boyfriend for the past eight years to get down on one knee and propose to me under the big Christmas tree downtown.  Based on my father’s guidance from years ago, I would settle for Tito to propose during the commercial break during the super bowl, so long as I had someone to spend the rest of my life and that would give me the excuse to move out of my parents’ home and from the way that I was looking at it, this weekend could be it.

Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday ~ Bringing you something new this week. ;)

Hi friends, welcome back to my page.  I had a great trip to Florida with the kids last week.  I absolutely loved it there, hopefully one day I will move south and when I do, the Orlando area is definitely somewhere that I have in mind.  🙂

Anyhow, welcome back to my fabulous web page.  A place where writers come to converse with one another and I use as my magical doorway to step into my writing friends imaginary worlds for WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS!  (Did you read that with a wrestling announcers voice?  That’s what I was going for.)

Wondering who we are?  I’m glad you asked.

~We are a fabulous group of individuals that posts 8-10 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we “hop” around and leave comments on each other’s snippets.  We welcome EVERYONE’s comments.~

Here’s my bit, let me know what you think.  😉   This one is something new I’m working on for Christmas, I figured I’d give Esperanza a break for a few weeks.

********************************************************************************

I remember growing up, the only thing I wanted for Christmas was an Easy Bake oven.  Year after year, I begged my parents for one and year after year when my sister Tatiana and I opened new sweaters or school clothes instead of the toys that we had begged my father and mother for.  To make up for our disappointment my mother always snuck a baggie under our pillows with handmade jewelry to make us feel better after my father left for work.  For myself this never helped the situation seeing as my sister who resembled my mother was always given the shinier and prettier jewelry while I received bits and scraps of whatever pieces my mother had left over from her projects.

I remember Tatiana waking up and sitting up on the side of her bed as she admired the jewelry and my mother caressing her long black hair and of course feeling jealous of the bond they shared.  I was always jealous of my mother and her relationship, but never once dared tell her anything about what I was feeling.  I knew my mother didn’t do it on purpose and I knew how badly it would hurt her if she ever thought she was making either of us jealous.  Besides this, I knew Christmas was a time for celebration and for being around the little family we had in the United States, that being only the four of us.

My father always told both Tatiana and I that Christmas was glorified by our nation’s traditions and that everyone who celebrated with extravagant gifts had forgotten the true meaning of Christmas and while I cried and whined about not getting the toy I wanted, Tatiana was accepting and always seemed happy with whatever he chose to give us and I hated her for it.
