Not long ago while at church, the pastor preached a sermon that I felt God had intended for me. There was a call up to the alter and I felt God call on me to come up. The sermon was on dreams and the pastor urged those that had given up on their dreams to come up. Well, I went. Through tears and prayers I knew in my heart that I really wanted to become an author. I was at a point that I felt like tearing up my Master’s Degree that I had worked so hard at and just giving up.
I had submitted my story to numerous publishers before that had turned it down because either it didn’t have a happy ending or I was “unagented.” One publisher responded that they liked the story but couldn’t work with me because it wasn’t the type of story that they were looking for. This publisher went on to give me a list of online publishers that I did absolutely nothing with for months out of discouragement. After church that day in June I went home and found that list. I submitted query letters to several and one responded and asked that I send this and I send that and I did. I kept God in my heart and allowed him to guide me as I went along. On the last day of July I signed a contract with them and I have never been so happy. While they are a smaller company, I feel so happy that they took a chance with me.
