Weekend Writing Warriors #Esperanza

Good day all.  This week has been a rough week.  My oldest son broke both sides of his ankle and I haven’t been feeling too well, so let’s get right down to business.

********************************************************************************“I’m going home.”  I said, not really knowing where home was as I prepared to board the airplane.

My father nodded his head, as if he understood the complexity of my situation and my sister Liliana looked on as if she knew what I was going through.  I shuddered knowing that I would leave my newborn behind and tried to shake it off as I tried to shake off the desperation in knowing that it would be weeks before I kissed her beautiful face again.

“We’ll take good care of her.”  Liliana suddenly said, reaching out to embrace me in one last hug before we parted ways and I held her as if I would never see her again before separating and walking down the long aisle to Micah and my seat.

I reached over and held onto him, as if I would never see him again and miraculously he reached up and held me back as if he knew what I was going through.

“Poor baby.”  I muttered before the plane took off, really meaning my comments for the two of us as we embarked on the next journey in our lives.

  1. Sounds like our girl is sad but determined- I hope things work out for her. And I hope both you and your son feel better!

  2. You’re breaking my heart with this snippet, Neva.
In real life, healing thoughts go out to your son. What a mess and summer is here next week. Supposed to be fun and games. Take care.

I hope the next leg of the journey will be better for her. I agree with Christina – she is determined to see this through. On a personal note, I’m sorry about your son and your situation *HUG* This week hasn’t been too kind to me either.

Feel better, Hun. I can relate all too well to lots of real life catastrophes piling on lately. Hopefully your son’s ankle will heal nicely and he can enjoy the upcoming summertime too.

As for your snippet, I keep wanting to go and shake her (gently) and say “You feel this bad about it because it IS bad. Don’t do this!”

Ouch! (And that comment applies to both your snippet and your son’s injury!)

  6. Heartbreaking! She’s not making the right choice, I’d say. The repeat of “as if I would never see him/her again” caught my attention, though. You might consider a re-word when you edit next.

  7. I hope you and your son are feeling better and no further mishaps! Changing subjects, this story is so sad and tragic, each excerpt just adds to the intensity. Well done!

This story is such an emotional heartbreaker, I’ve got a lump in my throat from reading it.

As for your son, glad he is on the healing side of the repair surgery, I hope his convalesce goes easy.

  9. Hmmm….and I thought that this was Liliana’s daughter! Where have I been, huh? 🙂 Very interesting snippet. I hope your son mends quickly and well! And I hope you feel better soon. Summer bug going around in these parts, too.
