Random Thought on Sleep

Does what is going on around you affect you while you sleep? I know for a fact that it does for me and last night a prime example of this as someone turned the television in my bedroom on after I had asleep. The thing that is really odd about this for me is that I actually question myself in my dreams and ask myself why I am having a dream that doesn’t pertain for me. I actually sometimes suggest to myself in my dream that this dream is intended for someone else. How is this possible in the unconscious mind? The reason that I know I was dreaming about what was happening on the television, is that when I woke up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, what was happening in the television show the television was set to was what was actually what was happening in my dream. Does this make sense? My husband likes to hear the sound of the television while he is sleeping and sometimes he will leave it on, the television show will change to infomercials and I will wake up thinking that I have to buy the a blender that I don’t actually need. I’ve got to leave an exercise show on one day and see if this helps to inspire me during the day.

Humidity in the Midwest

Today’s “off the wall” topic is Humidity.  If you live in the Chicago area you can totally feel me, when I talk about humidity, especially after yesterday’s weather.  For those of you around the country that missed out on the opportunity to experience Chicago’s hot and humid weather yesterday, let me take this opportunity to explain it to you.  Yesterday, when I walked outside, sweat began to pour from my face.  I am not a typical sweater, yet I had more water pouring out of my body then Lake Michigan has water.  Okay slight exaggeration, but you get my drift.

Did you know that if you have a basement, a dehumidifier can be highly beneficial in fighting mold growth in your “damp” areas?  During the summer months, I typically empty my large capacity dehumidifier six times a day.  If I emptied it as soon as it filled up, I would probably even empty it more often.  Can you imagine how much damage this type of weather can do to your finished basement walls?  Try mopping your basement floor, then rushing to get the clothes out of the dryer hours later and sliding across the room, trying desperately to catch your balance before you crash into the wall and your body slowly crumbles to the ground.  We have tile floors in our basement, so believe it or not, it can happen.

Anyhow, humidity may be annoying, but unfortunately if you live in the Midwest, or some areas of the southern region, it’s something that you just can’t get around.  So grab a cup of ice and set it outside and watch it melt, or better yet sit outside with a good book, or your favorite blogger’s website and enjoy your free sauna.  Make the best of it, because unless you’re planning to move, you’ll need to figure out how to deal with it!

Piercing Ears

All of my favorite radio stations have been talking about “Kim Kardasian” and how she pierced her baby’s ears too early in life, on their morning shows, and I have to say that I am really surprised with what their callers had to say.  I heard a lot about how it should have been her daughter’s decision and I have to say that while I respect their thoughts, I disagree.  Before you get upset, let me explain my reasoning.

I didn’t have my own ears pierced until I was seven.  I actually had to beg my mother to let me get my ears pierced.  The reason behind this was that my mother took me to the local beauty salon and asked the “evil hairstylist”, to cut my hair to my shoulders and she instead chopped it off to just below my ears.  I remember to this day how the hairstylist kept making comments about it not being even as she cut it higher and higher.  When it was over and I was wearing pants I looked just like a boy.  It was devastating for me.  I remember being in line to go to the restroom with the rest of the girls from my class and the hall monitor stopped me and telling me to use the boys restroom.

“But I’m a girl.”  I said.

“If you’re a girl, then where are your earrings?”  She replied.

While this would be considered an insensitive action on her part in today’s world, I get where she was coming from.  In the early eighties there was a lot less effort put into watching what we said or did for that matter.  From this point on, I would only wear dresses to school and begged my mother to take me to get my ears pierced.  My mother was a little old fashioned in her ways and wanted to wait until I was older.  She finally gave in to my numerous requests.  After this incident, I swore that when I had a daughter i would pierce her ears as a baby and found that there were a few good reasons behind doing this, besides it being for appearance. The major reason for my decision was that as an adult, I can still remember getting my own ears pierced.  The worst feeling in the world, was after they pierced the one side with the gun, waiting for them to come around and do the other side.  I knew that by piercing my daughters ears as a baby, she would never remember the piercing itself.  At three months old I took her to get her ears pierced, the beauty of this is that she was small enough that she didn’t try to pull them out.  The “Claire’s” I went to, only asked that she had her first set of immunizations before they would do it.I found that by leaving her earrings in for a year allowed her to have the holes, whether or not she went for years without wearing earrings, and this is exactly what happened.  At about seven years old she decided that she didn’t want to wear earrings any more.  She didn’t start wearing them again until she was twelve and when she was ready, the holes were there and there was no pain involved.  For this reason, my personal opinion is that it is best to get children’s ears pierced when they are young, what do you think?

My first website!!!

I am thrilled to be on the web and am hoping that you will enjoy all that I have to say!   My goal is to be straight with you, my reader because I want you to be completely honest with me.  I often have children running about my house, so please excuse me if I miss-spell or misuse a word.  I encourage you to point it out when I do.

Anyhow, today’s topic is a new kind of fear.  Why did I become extremely fearful when I walked by a co-worker’s car this morning and saw a car seat with a an attached sunshade?  I was worried that he may have forgotten his baby!  What is this world coming to?  Do you know that I actually walked over to his car and looked in, just to make sure there wasn’t a child in there?  Has anything like this happened to any of you recently?

Look for upcoming posts from me, at this fabulous website.
