Weekend Writing Warriors, more from Esperanza

Hey everyone.  Great news.  My son’s surgery went well-2 plates and 8 screws in his ankle.  This week has gone pretty well, I was even able to borrow a wheelchair from a friend so he can get around easier and I received a few five star reviews on Good Reads for “No Turning Back.”  Life is good!

Ok, now for my snippet.  I’m jumping ahead in the story.  I’m going back and forth with this story, to see where it goes… Can’t wait to hear what you guys think.

“Esperanza, I can’t believe the choices you make.”  Tylen said standing up and walking across the room.  “Now you’re getting the kids on this.  This isn’t the appropriate time to bring up adopting your cousin’s baby.  What are you thinking, every time I turn around I see another kid in this house!  God, now you want to bring another child into our family.  When you have that baby, I’m getting a vasectomy.”

My mouth dropped from his comments, but I quickly regained my composure and fired back at him.

“Don’t bother Ty, I’ll do it for you.”  I said, holding up my dinner knife angrily.

    • Ha, thanks. 🙂 This one is the one I’m currently working on, but when you read book 3 of Liliana, “No Turning Back”, you’ll understand more. I’ve got to work out the awkward mother/sister relationship in Esperanza. 😉

  2. Wow, Tylen’s being a jerk. I don’t blame her for being tempted to do some “Informal” surgery.:-)

Glad your son’s surgery went well. Sounds like an ordeal!

That last line raised my brows :-O. Tylen’s gonna regret saying that for sure! Glad things are better with you now.

  4. Feisty is the word for Esperanza. Love this snippet.
Thank God your son’s going to be all right. What an ordeal and it isn’t over.Kids, they can drive a mom nuts.

  5. Hope he recovers quickly!

Yeah, he’s not winning her over with his comments–and way to just make a decision that affects both of them all by himself!

I’m going to be a guy here and admit I’m sympathetic to Tylen’s reaction. From this snippet, it seems she hasn’t talked about her decisions and gotten his agreement, but has instead made unilateral decisions that affect him, too. That isn’t good for any relationship.

But then, without knowing what’s gone before, it’s impossible to really judge. And I have to say I love that final line. Don’t mess with this woman!

Have to say, I kind of agree with Ed. All along it seems (via the snippets I’ve seen only) that Esperanza has been making decisions that should involve both her and Tylen, keeping secrets from him and now… without knowing WHY she’s done all these things, I have to wonder why she feels she can threaten him so abruptly.

Glad to hear your son’s surgery went well, here’s tp speedy healing.

I was surprised to hear Tylen threaten to get a vasectomy, many misogynistic men (& I got the impression this was why Esperanza was making so many decisions on her own) won’t subject themselves to snipping themselves “down there”. His statement did sound more like a threat though than an actual plan. And I do love her feisty retort.
